Works for me but IMO it would be better to only disable buttons instead of
hiding them. (like that they don't move, and it's easier to see which one is
available: I can see at a glance that a green arrow is available, but i have to
focus on it to know if it's a right or a left arrow).
Also what about making those buttons a bit bigger (the four of them)? I always
struggle to reach them with my mouse pointer.

There is only fixed button size from gtk. I use gtk.ICON_SIZE_SMALL_TOOLBAR. I
think you can adjust the size of this kind of button with your GTK theme.
I find that other sizes will be too big and will take too much place to the list
(which is where the information is).
